Selena Gomez reveals to Miley Cyrus about her bipolar diagnosis

There was a Disney channel reunion on Instagram this week. Selena Gomez appeared on Miley Cyrus’ Bright Minded Instagram live to talk about various aspects of their lives. During the conversation, Selena made a revelation that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Selena Gomez reveals to Miley Cyrus about her bipolar diagnosis

Selena Gomez told Miley that she was diagnosed after visiting McLean Hospital, which is one of the best mental health hospitals in the United States. Recently, I went to one of the best mental hospitals in America, McLean Hospital, and I discussed that after years of going through a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar. And so when I got to know more information, it actually helps me. It doesn’t scare me once I know it. When I finally said what I was going to say, I wanted to know everything about it and it took the fear away,” Selena said who has been an advocate for mental health awareness for several years.

“When I was younger, I was scared of thunderstorms and my mom bought me all these books on thunderstorms and she was like, ‘The more you educate yourself on this, the more that you’re not going to be afraid.’ It completely worked. That’s something that helps me big time,” she added.

“I’ve been writing a lot. I think that that’s been helping me process what’s been going on,” Gomez said. “A lot of it is connecting with people that maybe you haven’t been the greatest to that you may not have thought about. I feel like there’s been a lot of people I’ve gotten to do that with not necessarily saying it was bad, but just saying, ‘Hey, I hope you’re safe. I hope you’re doing okay,’ and that you know you’re on my side. I’m only sending you love from this end.”

She further said, “There are moments where I just have to center myself and let the thoughts come in. Sometimes I’ll write them down, and then completely just sit with, ‘What is it? What is the root of this? Why can I get to the bottom of this?’ And it really helps me.”

Both Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez have had successful careers post their Disney fame with Hannah Montana and Wizards Of Waverly Place.

Waheeda Rehman – “My heart reaches out to daily wage earners”

“Akshay Kumar has donated so generously for those affected by the current pandemic crisis. So have the Ambanis, the Tatas and so many others. But where is that money going? Are the poor getting any relief? Why have no trains and buses been organized for the migrant workers? They’re walking for hundreds of miles to their homes without food water of shelter? Where is the relief work for these poor people?”

Waheeda Rehman - “My heart reaches out to daily wage earners”

Strong words from the mild-mannered soft-spoken Bollywood diva, the legend among legends, Waheeda Rehman who’s as taken aback by the virulence of the coronavirus as we are. “Yeh kahan se aaya. Kyun aaya? I am told there was a plague  which struck before I was  born. But during my lifetime, I’ve never seen anything like this. It is  frightening and no one knows how to combat it. When there is a war, we can identify the enemy. But in this case, we don’t know who the enemy is.”

Like all of us, Waheeda doesn’t step out of her home. “Luckily, I have three inhouse staff members. Otherwise, I’d have been all alone. Not going out is not such a problem for me. I didn’t go out much in anycase unless I had work. Nowadays, I spend my time reading, listening to music, cleaning, and cooking up new recipes in the kitchen. I also love photography and I am taking pictures of birds and the skyline from my balcony.”

Which of her movies does Waheeda recommend during the lockdown? “How can I recommend my own films? I can tell you my favourite films are Mughal-e-Azam, Sholay and Mother India.”

No Guide in Waheeda Rehman’s list? “It is up to you to say Guide is worth watching. I can only recommend films of other actors,” concludes the modest and shy diva who enchanted us in Guide, Reshma Aur Shera, Khamoshi, Kagaz Ke Phool and Pyaasa.

Ram Gopal Varma on his April Fool’s Day joke – "There are 100 times more Corona jokes being shared on the social media"

Ramu, what made you pull such a tasteless prank?
To start with, it was April Fool’s day and I made the joke on myself and not on anyone else and I also clarified that it’s a joke within a minute of the first tweet. As per the trolls, their hypocrisy is evident in  the fact that there are 100 times more Corona jokes being shared on the social media compared to the serious news about the same. That’s an open secret.

Do you think laughing about the virus makes it easier to bear?
Definitely. The philosopher Nietzsche said, “Man is the only animal that suffers so much that he was compelled to invent laughter as an antidote.” This is why even mainstream newspapers always put cartoons on the ongoing crisis. A sense of humour is the best way to fight depression.

How do you view the current pandemic God’s revenge or manmade calamity?
I doubt it. The reason is unimportant because in either way, it’s not in anybody’s control. I see it as a rude reminder of the fragility of our system.

Would you be tempted to make a film on it?
I actually wrote a script on it long back and announced my intention to make it in a tweet which I put out on 10/6/2018 .You can see that it’s eerily similar to the present happenings.

How do you spend your time in quarantine?
Watching films, documentaries and editing my new martial arts film Enter The Girl Dragon apart from studying the unbelievable things happening across the world.

Which books and films do you recommend?
The true-life things happening right now seems more gripping than any film or a book. I would rather recommend Life than Art .

What do you see as the major ramification of the virus for the film industry?
Whether it’s for the film industry or with any other organization, I think human beings will eventually adapt to any situation no matter how dire .

How do you think we will get back on our feet once this is over?
It will be difficult but we will get back for sure.

Tell us about your Chinese project?
It’s a martial arts film which I have been wanting to make forever. Shooting is nearly over.

Do you see China as a bigger threat to India than Pakistan?
I don’t subscribe to conspiracy theories and I think it’s too early to go on a judgmental spree.
