The sudden demise of America-based Indian actor Ranjit Chowdhry who will be remembered for his furiously funny performances in Basu Chatterjee’s Khatta Meetha, Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Khubsoorat, Mira Nair’s Mississippi Masala and so many others, has shocked all his friends.

Ranjit did four films with Deepa Mehta – Sam & Me, Camilla, Fire and Bollywood/Hollywood. She shared a special bond with the actor. Connecting from Toronto, Deepa Mehta says she can’t believe Ranjit is gone. “I have been in shock followed by an immense sadness by the death of Ranjit. We did four films together. He was in my first film Sam & Me. And he blew me away with the wide range of his talent, not only as an actor who was willing to take immense risks in playing difficult darkly comic roles but also for his antennae to contribute effortlessly to improvising dialogue.”

On a personal note, Deepa remembers Ranjit fondly as eternally rebellious. “His wicked sense of humour, his disdain for convention, his compassion and irascible nature will be hard to replace.”

This blow is especially hard at a time when we are going through tough times. Deepa is in Toronto while her mother is in Delhi, luckily in good health.

Actor Arjun Kapoor has been dating Malaika Arora for a while now. While they kept their relationship under wraps, their first public appearance during India’s Most Wanted premiere brought the spotlight on them. Since then, there have been several reports speculating their marriage. Many had stated that the couple was supposed to tie the knot in April this year. But, both the parties had refuted all the rumours.

Bollywood Hungama spoke to Arjun on Thursday amid nationwide lockdown as fans left several questions during an Instagram live session asking about his wedding plans with Malaika. Arjun responded. “I will tell all of you all when I am getting married. There are no plans as of right now. Abhi shaadi hogi bhi toh kaise, agar karni bhi hogi (Even if we wanted to, how it will be possible now?)”

When asked what makes Malaika special, “I would have to say it’s difficult, to sum up when you love somebody that one particular thing you like because the whole point is that when you love somebody, you love the entirety of the personality that the person has.”

He further said, “With her, I feel she really gets me and she’s very patient with me. I am not the easiest or the simplest person to be with, I am a certain way, and I think her patience with me really matters.”

Malaika Arora and Arjun Kapoor have been dating for over a year now and now publicly leave mushy comments and share photos on Instagram.

Kriti Sanon’s sister Nupur Sanon made her debut with a music video titled ‘Filhaal’ in which she was seen with Akshay Kumar. The song was a hit and crossed 100 million views on YouTube. Later, Nupur who is a trained singer did a cover version of the song. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Nupur spoke about Akshay Kumar’s reaction to her cover and ‘Filhaal 2’.

Nupur Sanon came out with the cover version of ‘Filhaal’ a few days before the lockdown was announced. When asked about the reactions she received to the song, she said, “I wasn’t expecting much out of it, and I did it because it is something I am passionate about. I have been making covers even before Kriti got into Bollywood. I am trained in Hindustani classical and I was doing it for my passion in general. I also wanted to do it because this is my own song. So I was like what is better than doing a female version of your own song. I was so surprised with all the messages I received. I did not expect it at all.”

When asked what Akshay Kumar had to say about the cover, Nupur said that she received a very sweet message from him appreciating the song. “He sent me a sweet message which said, ‘I loved it Nupur. And the best part is you stylised it in a different way but you kept the emotions intact. Nowhere did I feel that the emotions were compromised for style.’ He was really happy with the female version.”

The song composed by B Praak will be having a second edition. The announcement of the same was made a few weeks before the lockdown. When Nupur was asked if she had heard the song, she said that she has not. “No, I haven’t heard the song. But I have heard that it is something bigger only because I know these people (B Praak and Jaani) and Akshay sir won’t be satisfied till the time it is something of Filhaal’s level or more. I am very eager to listen to it,” she said.
