Thappad Box Office collection Day 2: Taapsee Pannu starrer fails to pick-up despite positive reviews

Director Anubhav Sinha’s Thappad talks about the problem of domestic violence in our society. Thappad is a story of Amrita played by Taapsee Pannu, who files for a divorce from her husband after he slaps her at a party. The film trailer got thumbs up from the audience and raising the expectation from the film. Thappad became one of the most talked-about films and Thappad too didn’t disappoint the fans. The film got raging reviews from the critics and audience who hailed the movie for its idea and expectation. The film managed to open to a decent start considering the fact that it wasn’t a big release in terms of screen. Thappad managed to collect little over Rs 3 crore and the first-day box office collection stood at Rs 3.07 crore. Taapsee Pannu starrer was expected to pick up on day 2 considering the positive reviews, however, the film failed to build on from Day 1 collection and is expected to end up with Day 2 collection at Rs 3 crore.

Box Office Collections: Taapsee Pannu starrer Thappad is fair, Ayushmann Khurrana’s Shubh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan hangs on

Thappad had a fair start at the box office as Rs. 3.07 crores came in. The opening was lesser than expectations as it was predicted in this column that around Rs. 4 crores would come in. However, the footfalls didn’t really see the kind of momentum that was expected out of it. The start was on the expected lines but then evening and night shows could have picked up better.

Nonetheless, the film has positive reviews going in its favour and that should help the urban multiplex audience come up in good numbers at least today. That would set the stage for word of mouth to take over and if that indeed turns out to be as good as the reviews; stage would be set for Sunday to grow further.

As for Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, the film managed to hang in there with Rs. 2.08 crores coming in. With the kind of fall that was evidenced right from Monday to Wednesday, it had seemed that the drop would be higher on the second Friday. However, with no other major entertainer per se as competition, there was space available for the Ayushmann Khurranna starrer to perform reasonably well.

So far, the film has collected Rs. 46.92 crores and with some push it could well manage to achieve the 50 crores milestone today.

Go Goa Gone 2 will have aliens, says Dinesh Vijan

Filmmaker Dinesh Vijan said the plot of Go Goa Gone 2 will centre around aliens, unlike its predecessor which was a comedy about zombies. Eros international and Maddock Films recently announced the sequel to the 2013 film, which featured an ensemble cast of Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Kemmu, Vir Das, Anand Tiwari and Puja Gupta. The movie followed three men whose holiday to Goa turns out to be a zombie nightmare. Saif played the role of Boris, a Russian mobster-turned-zombie hunter, in the Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK-directed film.
