The Tiger Shroff actioner Baaghi 3 that released yesterday opened on a good note. Directed by Ahmed Khan the film which released across 4400 screens in the domestic market lived upto expectation at the box office on day 1 despite the Coronavirus scare.

Collecting Rs. 17.50 cr on its opening day Baaghi 3 has managed to out beat the Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior that had collected Rs. 15.10 cr to become the highest opening day grosser of 2020. Besides Tanhaji, the third instalment in the Baaghi franchise has managed to perform better than other release as well like, Love Aaj Kal that collected Rs. 12 cr, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan that collected Rs. 9.55 cr, Street Dancer 3D that collected Rs. 9.50 cr, Malang that collected Rs. 6.71 cr, Bhoot – Part 1 – The Haunted Ship that collected Rs. 5.10 cr, Chhapaak that collected Rs. 4.77 cr, Jawaani Jaaneman that collected Rs. 3.24 cr, and Thappad that had collected Rs. 2.89 cr.

As of now, Baaghi 3 enjoys not only a wide release but also an unopposed run in theatres. This coupled with the fact that the film has received positive reviews, expectation are that the business of Baaghi 3 will see immense growth over its opening weekend.

2020 has seen one blockbuster film Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior this year and it had taken a good start of Rs. 15.10 crores. Now Baaghi 3 has surpassed the opening of the Ajay Devgn starrer by bringing in Rs. 17.50 crores on its first day. Of course the kind of trajectory that Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior had enjoyed was something that happens in very rare cases and this is what has resulted in the film’s lifetime turning out to be almost 30 times that of the opening day. One can’t expect the same for every biggie that opens in this range.

Still, the fact also remains that this is one of the best openings numbers, especially foe a young star. Tiger Shroff has been enjoying a loyal fan following, as evidenced in his solo release Baaghi 2 [Rs. 25.10 crores] and two-hero film War [Rs. 53.35 crores]. Now Baaghi 3 has opened well too, though the numbers could well have been bigger if not for the virus scare. The Sajid Nadiadwala production was expected to open in Rs. 22-25 crores range but would have to settle for a lesser Friday.

Nonetheless, the rest of the weekend still remains and then there is Holi holiday on Tuesday. That would help Monday evening and night shows footfalls as well, though again it has to be seen what’s the kind of impact that the health scare across the country has on the Ahmed Khan directed film as the days progress.
