The Tiger Shroff starrer Baaghi 3 has been making headlines since it commenced shooting thanks to the high octane action sequences. Now, last Friday the film hit 4400 screens across India, and opened on a good note. However, the business of the film fell short of expectations due to the ongoing Coronavirus scare that has been keeping audiences away.

While the Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior that had collected Rs. 61.75 cr still leads the list of highest opening weekend grossers of 2020, Baaghi 3 has out beaten other releases like Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan that collected Rs. 32.66 cr, Love Aaj Kal that collected Rs. 26 cr, Malang that collected Rs. 25.36 cr, Chhapaak that collected Rs. 19.02 cr, Bhoot: Part One – The Haunted Ship that collected Rs. 16.36 cr, Panga that collected Rs. 14.91 cr, and Thappad that had collected Rs. 13.98 cr.

Now, all that remains to be seen is, whether Baaghi 3 that enjoys an unopposed run in theatres goes on to become one of the highest opening week grossers of 2020. However, while trade expectations state that this scenario is highly plausible, the question remains whether the Coronavirus scare that is gripping the nation will eventually affect the overall business of Baaghi 3.

Baaghi 3 came on its own on Sunday as there was good growth evidenced. The film collected Rs. 20.30 crores and this is the first time ever over the weekend that the Rs. 20 crores milestone was crossed. This was the kind of feat that the film was expected to perform from the first day itself but the fact that this has now come on the third day at least is good news indeed.

What is noticeable is that the jump from Saturday numbers of Rs. 16.03 crores is quite good, which means it can well be expected that Monday hold would be good as well. Tomorrow is the holiday due to the festival of holi and that should help evening and night shows today. If the Tiger Shroff starrer managed to score in double digits today, it would be good indeed.

The Sajid Nadiadwala production currently stands at Rs. 53.83 crores and this is now the second biggest weekend of 2020 after Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior [Rs. 61.93 crores]. This was also the time when the Ajay Devgn starrer took off in a very major way and hence Baaghi 3 can’t be expected to challenge any further records of 2020. That said, the Ahmed Khan directed film is far ahead of Street Dancer 3D that had a weekend of Rs. 41.23 crores. In fact, the collections are just a bit short of the Varun Dhawan film which had collected Rs. 56.77 crores in its entire first week.

Currently, Baaghi 3 still enjoys the audience’s favour and is expected to continue to do business. With little to no competition from other releases the film is likely to dominate the box office window. However, with the Coronavirus scare keeping a certain segment of audience away from cinemas it remains to be seen how the business of Baaghi 3 is affected.
