Irrfan, the audience will get to see you in the film that you shot after your illness…what are your thoughts on this?
I’m happy to be back to tell another story. Stories well-told have always been my weakness. Homi Adajania is an unusual story teller I am happy I am reconnecting with my audience with this story. He is quirky and has an unusual sense of rhythm. Cinematographer Anil Mehta’s gaze adds up.

What was it like shooting for Angrezi Medium? Was it any different from the way you shot you films earlier?
It was extraordinary time for me. I have shot in Rajasthan before. But essentially it was the landscape earlier. But in this film it was more of the people’s heartbeat. The locations were unusual. In Asif Kapadia’s Warrior I had shot in extreme weathers but in the same country (Rajasthan in India). In Angrezi Medium it was a different continent.

Irrfan, the past two years have been traumatic for you and your family. What has been you biggest takeaway from this experience?
The past two years have been dramatic I would say rather than traumatic. I had bigger challenges then I have ever faced. But I realized bigger the challenges, life exposes you to the limitlessness of your capacity to endure them. You just need to learn to hear yourself your body and your mind.

You spent nearly a year away from home getting your medical procedure done. During this trying period, what kept you going? What gave you the impetus to just keep pushing on through the dark tunnel?
It (the illness) was overwhelming with its suddenness. But then you form a rhythm and delete things irrelevant to you. The definition of necessary changes, evolves.

Irrfan, you were always a compassionate human being. How has your illness changed your attitude towards family, friends and colleagues?
I don’t know about others you need to ask them that but it has changed my attitude towards myself. Most of the time you are not tuned to yourself whether you are well or not, everyone needs healing. We don’t do it because we are not clinically ill.

In Angrezi Medium you play a simple down-to-earth man who craves for nothing more than his daughter’s education. Did you enjoy the simplicity of your character after all the complex characters you’ve played in recent times?
It’s most difficult to play a simple man in today’s time especially if you stay a city. The humour the fun the non-cultivated passion. I don’t think it was easy to perform

What do we see in next?
I haven’t seen myself in the next as yet.

Sara Ali Khan, who seems pretty unstoppable ever since she began her career in showbiz, is also known as a clear talker who does not mend words. Earlier, she has spoken about being raised by a single mother and how it inspired her to remain true to herself. However, that’s not to say that her bond with father Saif Ali Khan lacks any bit of affection.

Saif, in a recent interview, said he always tried to be there for his kids (Sara and Ibrahim Ali Khan) and never felt he was being an absentee father. Responding to the same, Sara has now opened up to said Saif has been a great father and has always been there for her and Ibrahim even though he did not live with them. As she puts it, Saif deserves a special hug for the same!

She also added that since she lived with mother Amrita Singh, Amrita, every day, had an opportunity to show her how much she loved her. But it wasn’t the same with Saif, hence there would not be a lot of showing of emotions. Sara adds that she finds it a comforting fact that Saif is always a call away.

On the work front, she just wrapped shooting for Coolie No. 1 and is presently filming for Aanand L Rai’s Atrangi Re, also starring Akshay Kumar and Dhanush.

Life has not been too kind to tennis champ Leander Paes. He has been fighting a long and hard battle with his long-standing companion Rhea Pillai over their child’s custody and financial arrangements. In the midst of the ongoing turmoil in his life, it seems Leander Paes has found a good friend in Telugu-Tamil actress Kajal Aggarwal. The two have been spotted together on more than one occasion. And they seem most happy in each other’s company.

A source in the know says it’s too early to suggest that the couple are in a relationship. “They are just getting to know one another well. If only the media glare doesn’t eclipse their mutual feeling, there may be something more to this friendship than meets the eye. But for that to happen they need space,” cautions a source.

Let’s give them that luxury.
